Not for use on Gen 5 models, with Gen 4 trigger bars or G42. Not compatible with G40, 10mm and .45 ACP models. Because frame sizes change between older and newer versions of the Glock® 20 and 21, we do not recommend using this trigger due to assembly issues.

I started in the gun industry in the late 90's doing Glock trigger work. I had a broken version under 2 pounds using modified spare parts except for the firing pin spring. Since then I have done over 1000 startups. They are all more or less obsolete now, thanks to Timny.

Glock opened its office in the US in 1986. I'm surprised it took 35 years for someone to do what Timney did to change the trigger. It's one of the easiest things to hit yourself over the head with, "Why didn't I think of that?"

Alpha Trigger is available in two versions. One version for Gen 3 and 4 Glocks and another version for Gen 5 Glocks. The Gen 5 uses a completely different trigger rod, firing pin, firing pin safety, return spring and trigger mechanism. Because of this, Gen 5 rifles cannot use trigger parts from the previous generation.

On a factory Glock trigger, you pull the firing pin back until the trigger is released. The trigger rod is a stamped part and the surface that contacts the firing pin tip is often very rough. This is a key area to line up and adjust when doing startup work. A stamped steel slide on a fine machined firing pin lug does not provide a smooth break.

When you pull the trigger, you also squeeze the shotgun. One of the oldest ways to find a Glock trigger is to use an aftermarket trigger spring. Many said they were unreliable; They can be if they are not set up correctly. If done right, they are good. I have over 100,000 rounds through various competition Glocks using the easy trigger spring with no misfire issues.

Apex Update On Gen 5 Glock Trigger

Stock launch bar on the left and Alpha on the right. The alpha does not touch the firing pin, so there is no hair on the trigger bar.

Timny removed them all with an alpha trigger. The aluminum trigger housing replaces the trigger return spring in the trigger mechanism housing. The firing pin lug is now locked by the breech and all the trigger does is lower the shot to let the gun fly. Now you have well-aligned pads that mesh together and the weight of the spring in the gun has much less effect on the weight of the trigger break.

With all factory stock units, you can expect a breaking weight of 3-3.5 pounds with the Alpha trigger. Not only is it lighter, it's smoother and crisper with less overlap and slippage. Even with the plus connector I was able to get the weight down to under 4 pounds. If you want to go lighter, it's easy to get by replacing it with a point or drop link for less than 3 pounds.

All of these weights come with the factory firing pin spring. This is a huge selling point for Alpha Trigger. You don't need to use a light spring anymore to weigh less than 3 pounds. Factory springs last a long time and provide reliable ignition for a wide range of ammo. For example, if you have some reloads where the primers aren't all the way under the plate, it's probably still the factory firing pin spring. You get a clicker with a simple firing spring.

I have been shooting both trigger versions for the past few months and have about 4000 rounds on the Gen 3 and 1000 on the Gen 5. Here is where I find the downsides of this new trigger.

I shot my Gen 3 at the Iron Challenge match in May and the trigger wouldn't release the gun on the last step. It felt like a trip stop that was adjusted and the trigger would not go all the way back and fire the gun. Instead of trying to fix it in time, I cleaned the gun and left it as it was so I took it apart and tried to figure out what happened.

During the failure, I fired about 2,500 rounds without cleaning my trigger. After disassembly, it seems that a small amount of debris (dirt, bits of carbon, unburnt powder, etc.) got into the nozzle housing and prevented the trigger rod from pushing down.

However, it is easy to fix the problem. You have to clean it often. My recommendation is to spray both the factory trigger housing and the Timny sir housing with brake cleaner or similar every 500-1000 rounds. I haven't had any problems with Alpha Trigger since I started doing it. One of the reasons Glocks are popular is that you can be lazy and put thousands of rounds through them without maintenance. You can't be lazy at Timny Alpha. It's like a race car with a daily driver. A modern production car can go 10,000 miles without maintenance. A race car is a high-performance machine with extremely tight tolerances and precision parts. Because of this, a race car often needs a complete tune-up or teardown every 500-1000 miles. This trigger is no different. Treat him well and he will treat you well.

My Gen 3 Alpha trigger was an early production model and some users failed to reset it because the return spring was too weak. Timney was quick to make changes and the kit now includes two trigger springs. If you have problems with reset failure, simply switch to a hard red recovery source. Glock shooters who favor the pistol's heavier reset pressure should use the heavier red spring to start, as they feel more familiar to them.

Not only has Timney revolutionized the Glock trigger, but all three factory Glock safeties are fully functional with the Alpha. The drop safety, firing pin stop and safety trigger are all identical to the stock setup. The Alpha trigger shoe is made of aluminum and the trigger safety is wider and more comfortable than the standard version.

Alpha can be adjusted before traveling or shooting. Be very careful when adjusting this as you can easily overdo it
